Student Achievements & Awards

  • A Model G-20 initiative was introduced by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) under India’s Presidency of the G20 Summit. to engage the students from all 50K+ degree colleges/ universities/ technical institutions in a dialogue and hence, provide exposure and insights into the nuances of multilateral discourse on global challenges and pressing policy issues of the current times. Under this initiative, the young students were provided a unique opportunity to model the functioning and proceedings of G20 meetings.
  • Model G20’s themes were the 7 objectives of the G20: Progress on Sustainable Development Goals; Climate Change and its Impact; Reforms for Multilateral Institutions, Circular Economy and Lifestyle for the Environment; Digitization of Agriculture/Trade/Skilling; Women at the Core of Development Agenda/Women-led Development; LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment. It was conducted in 3 stages.
  • The second round was a Debate competition which was conducted in six zones in the respective IITs falling under that zone. The participant was allowed to debate over various perspectives of one of the 7 G20 themes. The best one from each theme was selected for the third round from each zone, which was an elocution round, and were awarded with a cash prize of ₹ 10,000/-.
  • In the final round, participants were given a time limit of 5 minutes to voice out their ideas and provide policy recommendations and solutions to address the pertaining issues of their particular theme. One winner was picked from each theme out of these and the 7 winners were awarded with ₹ 50,000/-. Our students from Semester 5 of BA Economics (Class of 2024), Pavani Munnuri, who spoke on "Women at the Core of Development Agenda/Women-led Development," and Anaya Subodh Degloorkar, who spoke on "Reforms for Multilateral Institutions," made it to the final round of the Model G20 competition.
  • Anaya Degloorkar was among the seven finalists selected to advocate her views for the theme "Reforms for Multilateral Institutions." The 7 winners of the competition, each for one theme, were allowed to contribute their ideas to the G20 Document.
  • The award ceremony for Stages 2 & 3 was held at IIT Hyderabad on the 13th of October, 2023, and was presided over by the Chief Guest Mr. K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education.
  • The ceremony was virtually addressed by the G20 Sherpa, Mr. Amitabh Kant. Also present at the venue were esteemed guests of honor, including Dr. B. S. Murty (Director of IIT Hyderabad), Mr. Rajendra Singh Dhaka (Chair, INYAS), members of the INYAS, Professors from IITs and NITs among others.
