Department Profile – Human Resource and Soft Skills

  • The Department of Human Resources & Soft Skills, an integral part of the Faculty of Management was established in 1995.The department creates and disseminates knowledge in Organizational Behaviour, Human Resources, Business Communication and Soft Skills.
  • The department has two major areas of focus – Operations and Information Technology. Currently, the department has forty four faculty members involved in teaching, research and administration. Of these, thirty seven are Doctorates.
  • The department has 47 faculty members. The highly qualified and experienced multidisciplinary team of Faculty has teaching, research interests and industry experience in the fields of HRM, OB, Soft Skills, Psychology, Employment Laws, Corporate Communication, Organizational Counselling and Design Thinking.
  • The faculty members work in close coordination, with a shared focus on student success. More than 90% of the faculty has PhDs, and 61% are women.

Teaching

  • The department offers courses as part of PhD in Management, MBA, BBA, and BA (Eco) programs of the University. It offers a thriving undergraduate and postgraduate elective portfolio designed to current industry requirements that enable students to kick start better corporate careers.
  • In addition, the faculty also offer courses like SS labs, Communication and interpersonal skills, time management, personality profiling, Human Values etc. which play an important role in increasing the employability as well as self-esteem of the students.

Research and Publications

  • The department engages in contemporary and quality research in the thrust areas of Positive Organizational Behavior and Scholarship, Leadership and Change Management, Talent Management, Employment Laws, Employer Branding, HR Tech & Analytics, etc.
  • The research quality has seen a quantifiable improvement in the Year-on-Year increase in publications in reputed National & International peer-reviewed journals indexed in databases such as Scopus, ABDC, and UGC CARE.
  • Apart from research publications, the faculty also contributes to the Case Research Center by developing case studies which are mapped to the courses offered.
  • The case studies developed by the faculty of the department received 9 International and 17 National case writing awards. The faculty is also involved in publishing books and book chapters which have seen a considerable increase in numbers year-on-Year.
  • The Department organizes an International Conference annually that attracts research contribution from scholars and academicians from India & abroad.
  • The Department brings out four peer-reviewed journals - IUP Journal of Organizational Behavior, IUP journal of Soft Skills, IUP Journal Management Research and IUP Journal of Corporate Governance, and one magazine the HRM Review.
